▶발표제목: “Kant’s Criticism of Metaphysics: God and the Fundamental”

이번 11월 철학연구소에서는 Eric Watkins (University of California, San Diego) 교수님을 모시는 뜻깊은 기회를 마련했습니다. Watkins 교수님은 전세계적으로 알려진 저명한 칸트 연구가 입니다. Watkins 교수님의 주된 관심 분야는 전비판기 칸트철학과 독일근대철학, 과학철학 그리고 실천철학 입니다.

교수님의 대표적인 연구실적은 다음과 같습니다. 저서로는 Kant and the Metaphysics of Causality (CUP, 2005), Kant on Laws (CUP, 2019), Ina Goy와 공저한 Kant's Theory of Biology (De Gruyer, 2014)가 있습니다. 논문으로는 Willaschek 교수와 공저한 "Kant on cognition and knowledge", Synthese, 197 (8): 3195-3213; “On the Necessity and Nature of Simples: Leibniz, Wolff, Baumgarten, and the pre-Critical Kant,” Oxford Studies in Early Modern Philosophy 3 (2006): 261-314; “Kant and the Myth of the Given,” Inquiry 51 (2008): 512-531. 등이 있습니다. 아울러, 볼프, 크루지우스, 바움가르텐 등 칸트 이전의 철학자들의 글을 영어로 번역한, Kant’s Critique of Pure Reason: Background Source Materials (CUP, 2009)와 칸트의 자연 과학에 관한 글들을 영어로 번역한 Scientific Writings을 통해서, 역사적 칸트 이해에 큰 기여를 했습니다.
